Supporting the “Gender and Tobacco” Seminar at the American University
On the occasion of the World Day to Combat Smoking, the “Center for Research on Population and Health” and the “Research Collective for Reducing Smoking” at the American University of Beirut held a seminar under the title "gender and tobacco: the issue of marketing tobacco to women", on June 28, 2010, at Issam Fares Hall at the American University. The seminar was held under the patronage and in the presence of Mrs. Mona Al Hrawi, the President of the “Permanent Care Center for treating children with diabetes and Tilasemia”, and with the support of 45 civil associations, including the Makhzoumi Foundation. The seminar tackled the draft of the law on reducing smoking in Lebanon, whereby the participating associations signed a petition supporting its cause.
It is worth mentioning that during the seminar, Makhzoumi Foundation distributed a flyer on smoking hazards and the ways to get rid of it. This flyer was prepared in 1999 and since then it is being distributed every year to individuals and associations during the “World Day to Combat Smoking”, within the framework of the activities carried out to raise awareness on smoking hazards that expose the individuals, the society and the environment to a real danger.
